Drill presses and mortise machines are both designed to let you accurately, precisely and cleanly drill holes in any number of materials. The main difference between a drill press and mortise machine (or mortiser) is the shape of the hole. Drill presses create circular holes of any size, depending on the bit. Mortise machines let you create square holes, typically for creating mortise-and-tenon joints.
