There are a slew of reasons you may need to cut wire, and depending on the specific model of diagonal pliers, you can cut anything from copper, brass, iron, aluminum and steel.
The pliers work by wedging the wire apart. The cutting edges dig into the wire, creating indentations that lead to a full severing of the wire.
