The easiest thing to notice when first grabbing a laminate-trim router is how light it is. By far the lightest category of router, laminate-trim routers can be easily used with one hand. As the name suggests, a laminate-trim router is ideal for trimming extra laminate, paneling or linoleum and its light weight and size give it the ability to reach tight corners.
Laminate-trim routers generally create less noise and vibration and can be used with a tilting base for angled routing. If you’ll be doing a lot of trimming or detailed work (like inlays and small hardware installation), a laminate-trim router is essential. However, these routers don’t have enough power for all routing jobs and are limited to ¼” shank bits due to a smaller collet.
