Cabinetmakers, carpenters and all kinds of professional and DIY woodworkers use planer/molders to shape wood. These machines combine the functions of a planer (cutting the face of the wood) and a molder (cutting the horizontal edge) to either shape one piece of wood or create uniform sizes across many pieces of wood. This is especially important in cabinet making, for example, as exact specifications need to be met consistently.
As opposed to a jointer/planer, which is ideal for creating uniform boards ready for joining, a planer/molder creates and shapes uniform boards that won’t necessarily be joined (for example, cabinet doors that need to be identical to each other).
