Scroll saws are a favorite tool of experienced woodworkers and beginners—they’re not difficult to use and can do a lot of jobs. You can use them to make external and peripheral cuts as you might also use a band saw, but because scroll saws don’t use continuous blades, you can also make detailed interior cuts.
By drilling a hole into the piece, you can insert the blade and make your interior cuts. These tools don’t use a lot of power, but using different speeds, you can cut through wood, brass, copper and plastic.
