Working on a job for a friend of mine's new apartment. One of the things she wanted done was a wall mounted t.v. there was an unused light switch, 2 pole single throw to the bottom right of the
... (read more) new spot for the t.v and above the t.v and to the left was a covered splice box with 2 sets of wires in it. When i checked the switch for power there was power going to it. Oddly though, one side of the switch when closed was reading the correct 120v but the side would read 24 when put to neutral. The 2 neutrals were wire tied together and the ground was tied into one side of the switch with the other loosely wrapped around it. Upon playing with the switch we found it didn't switch off any devices or other outlets in the room. One leg of that switch which was reading 24v did go to the covered splice box above the t.v i had mentioned before. The other issue i'm facing is multiple outlets in the apartment are only reading 60v hot to neutral. It had been getting late so i didn't have time to go tracing wires through attic. Anyone have any advice on what could be going on here?
